Abstract

The advantage of honey in the treatment of pharyngitis has shown that honey has antibacterial activity againstStreptococcus pyogenes, as the most common bacteria causes pharyngitis. Several researches had shown that honeyhad antibacterial effect against Streptococcus pyogenes. The aim of this study was to know the effective concentrationof honey against Streptococcus pyogenes in vitro. This study was a laboratory experimental design. The antibacterialactivity of honey has been tested by the determination of the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimalbactericidal concentration (MBC) using the tube dilution method. The result of this study indicated that honey had anantibacterial activity against Streptococcus pyogenes, inhibiting and killing the bacteria in vitro. The conclusion wasobvious that MIC and MBC of honey against Streptococcus pyogenes were 12,5% and 25% respectively.

Keywords
