Abstract


Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus) is one of the major causes of hospital-acquired infection. MRSA stands for MethicillinResistant Staphylococcus aureus, which is a type of S.aureus that is resistant to the antibacterial activity of methicillinand other related antibiotics of the penicillin class. Nurses can be nasal carrier of MRSA and their hands may becomecontaminated with MRSA by contact with infected or colonized patients. The purpose of this research is to identifyMRSA on nurses’ nose and hand at Cendrawasih I Surgical Ward in Arifin Achmad General Hospital Pekanbaru. Alaboratoric descriptive research had been done by bacterial isolation in blood agar and was completed by macroscopic,microscopic and biochemical reaction method. The cefoxitin susceptibility is using the Kirby Bauer disc diffutionmethod. The result of this research shows among 16 nurses, MRSA strains were isolated from the nasal anterior of 3nurses (18,75%) and from the hands of 5 nurse (31,25%).
