Abstract


Reality shows that there are still many university students have variety of difficulties and impairment in their studies inwhich it will directly impact academic achievement, even though they have actually exceeded from a tight selection.Then, idea comes along that success or not of a university student does not depend on IQ (Inteligence Quotient) solely,but also their personality dimension. The aim of this research was to see the relationship among the personality andacademic achivement of a university student. This research used analityc method of cross sectional study. Populationwas 2006’s students Faculty of Medicine of Riau University. Sample of this research was 71 person. The instrument ofmeasuring personality type was Edward Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS). Then, the scales on EPPS (within lowand high limits) will interpret in personality type (type A, B and AB), and the personality type will be linked with theiracademic achievement (satisfily, very satisfily and cum laude) according to their Cumulative Index Achievement. Therelationship among personality type and academic achievement was assess by Chi Square test using Statistical Productand Service Solution program (SPSS). From data analysis was found that personality type relate to academic achievement(p value = 0.024). The student with personality type of A to achieve a high academic achievement was 1.83 timespossibility compared with student with personality type of B, and 2.17 times possibility with student personality typeof AB.
